미국 납세자보호연맹(TPA), 국제정부기관 감시활동 착수

미국의 납세자단체인 ‘납세자보호연맹(Taxpayers Protection Alliance, TPA)’은 국제정부기관(International Government Organizations, IGO)을 감시하고 한국의 납세자연맹을 비롯한 각 국의 납세자 단체에 이에 대한 동의를 구하는 새로운 프로젝트에 착수했다.
‘IGO Watch’라고 명명된 이 프로젝트는 OECD(경제협력개발기구), ILO(국제노동기구), WHO(세계보건기구), 유엔(UN) 및 세계은행과 같은 국제기구를 지원하기 위해 사용되는 수백만 달러의 세금에 대한 도전인 것이다.
TPA는 이들 IGO들이 더 높은 세금, 더 많은 규정, 더 큰 정부와 같은 공공 정책을 위한 로비를 위해 돈을 낭비한다고 주장한다. 또한 지금까지 TPA는 미국, 영국, 뉴질랜드, 캐나다를 비롯한 세계에서 가장 큰 납세자단체들과 협력해 왔다. 100만명이 넘는 회원이 가입되어 있는 한국납세자연맹도 가장 큰 단체 중 하나이며 연맹의 회원과 활동가들은 세계에서 가장 강력한 감시인들인 셈이다.

The Taxpayers Protection Alliance is working on a new project called to monitor international government organizations, and their asking KTA and other taxpayers associations around the world to join their cause.
Called the IGO Watch, it’s intended to challenge the millions of taxpayer dollars used to fund international organizations like the OECD, International Labour Organization, WHO, the UN and the World Bank. Their argument is that these IGOs waste that money to lobby for public policy like higher taxes, more regulations, and larger government.
So far, they have partnered with some of the world’s largest taxpayer organizations, including in the U.S., England, New Zealand and Canada. Of course, with more than one million members, KTA is one by far the largest. And the members and staff at KTA are some of the fiercest watchdogs in the world.
